Bryon Chew Finishes 7th In Qualifying Race For All-Star Showdown
Irwindale, CA (November 12, 2004): Bryon Chew, driver of the No. 99 STA-RITE Pumps Chevrolet will start 14th in the Toyota All-Star Showdown Saturday night after an impressive seventh place run in his qualifying race Friday night.
At the drop of the green, Chew moved into fourth and was slowed by a side-by-side battle just in front of him. Chew attempted to duck underneath the cars at lap 7, but was forced to back out of the three-wide maneuver. Patience paid off for the Mattituck, NY-native when an opportunity opened up at lap nine to go by for third.
At lap 20, Chew was approached by the hard-charging Andy Santerre and was relegated to third after making it up as high as second.
“The long-run wasn’t really what my car needed,” Chew said. “I think if we would have had a caution we would have an opportunity to finish a little better than we did. Hey, you work with what you have. I think the STA-RITE Pumps Chevrolet was solid tonight, and I’m really optimistic for a strong run tomorrow.”
As the laps wound down, Chew was relegated to the seventh position, and maintained that spot until the checkers fell.
